Wisteria Painting

Wisterias
Aren't they stunning?

I wanted a floral painting for my bedroom wall, to go just above my bedside table. I came across lovely wisteria paintings on my Instagram feed and instantly fell in love with this beautiful plant with its stunning purple flowers. I decided to do a wisteria painting and add a little personal touch to my bedroom.

I had a small canvas lying around, perfect size for what I had in mind. I used Pinterest to surf for a reference photo and did the painting in acrylics.

Later, I decided to do another wisteria painting, but this time in watercolors. I tried to paint with a looser and more abstract style, a style that I found more challenging. You can check out my work in progress photos below.

And here is the finished painting.

What style of painting do you find challenging? Leave me your answers in the comments!

Painting - Bread and Fruit Dish on a Table

I love to recreate paintings by famous artists.
Like this one here.
Taking on such projects is challenging.  You have to work on getting the colors right (if not exactly then as close to the original as much as possible). And since I work with acrylics, getting the colors to match does sometime get difficult. However, when I look at the finished piece, the exhilarating sense of accomplishment and feeling of immense satisfaction seems worth the time and effort.

I replicated Pablo Picasso's "Bread and Fruit Dish on a Table". The artist is famous for co-founding the Cubist movement. And I am a big fan of cubism. Besides impressionism, this is another favourite technique that I like to work with.

I love the vibrant colors. And though I had to struggle a bit with the shades and the painting itself might not be a perfect replica, all in all I am happy with my finished piece!

Painting - Cherry Blossoms

A while back, actually make it a really long while back, I shared a glimpse of a painting I had been working on on my facebook page. I somehow never got around to sharing the finished piece. So let's have a look at it.

Inspired by Starry Night that I replicated for my sister, I decided to do another one in Vincent Van Gogh's style using bold, dramatic and circular brush strokes. Below are a few close up shots of the painting done in acrylics.

By the Sea - Painting

This one is from a visit to Cairns earlier this year. In this semi-abstract painting I have tried to capture the clear and warm water of the  magical sea with its infinite variation in light and color.

Again I have worked with acrylics on a 18" by 24" canvas.

Don't you just want to dive in?!
